Don’t sleep on this Amaretto Spritz! It’s light and refreshing, not too boozy and so simple to make. It’s the perfect holiday cocktail, especially when garnished with an orange slice and cinnamon stick.

What’s In an Amaretto Spritz

  • Amaretto: Disaronno is the original amaretto liqueur and it’s the best one to use for this simple spritz.
  • Lemon Juice: as always, fresh is best!
  • Orange juice: just like with the lemon juice, fresh is best!
  • Angostura bitter: this cocktail calls for 8 dashes of bitters. This is a lot compared to most other cocktails, but I find it’s essential to balance out the flavors and lend the drink depth of flavor.
  • Dry sparkling wine: I recommend using something like a Cava or Cava Brut.
  • Club soda: just don’t use tonic water!

How to Make an Amaretto Spritz

The process could not be more simple. Here’s how to make it:

  1. Combine amaretto, lemon juice, orange juice and bitters in a wine glass.
  2. Fill the glass with ice then pour in the sparkling wine and club soda.
  3. Give it a stir with a straw then garnish with and orange slice and cinnamon stick.

Use Amaretto in These Recipes

  • One of my favorite cocktails to date is our Italian Margarita. It’s made with lemon, lime and orange juice, plus amaretto. It’s amazing!
  • If you’ve got amaretto on hand, then you’ve got to try the classic Amaretto Sour! You’ll need amaretto, bourbon, lemon juice, sugar and egg white.
  • A dash of amaretto ups the flavor in the mascarpone filling of this Fruit Tart.

Notes

The best amaretto liqueur is Disaronno. It’s worth seaking out.
For the best results and to avoid dilution, chill all of the ingredients before making.
